About

A tool for the repetitive part of podcast editing.

podswitch automatically cuts multicam podcast video in Final Cut Pro, using each speaker’s microphone. It is built and operated by Metamindz, a UK company. It exists to take the repetitive first pass of a conversational multicam edit off your hands, so your time goes on the decisions that need a person.

Why does podswitch exist?

Cutting a conversation between several cameras is mostly the same decision made hundreds of times: show whoever is talking, hold the shot long enough, cut to a listener on long answers, go wide when people talk over each other. With a microphone per speaker, that decision can be read straight from the audio.

podswitch started as a script that did exactly this for two speakers and produced an FCPXML that Final Cut Pro imported cleanly. The product generalises it to more speakers and extra cameras, adds automatic sync and a bleed-free dialogue mix, and runs it without you installing anything.

How is it built?

  • Every decision comes from the microphones. Video is never uploaded or analysed.
  • The same recording with the same settings always produces the same edit.
  • Recordings are processed only to deliver the service and never used to train models.
  • Uploaded audio is deleted automatically when its retention period ends.
